Literary Festival: Important Travel Information

Travel Information

Travel from and to London

To Festival -

Trains from London to Kettering are running as normal

From Festival -

Southbound service, from Kettering to London will depart stations up to 3 minutes earlier than scheduled from 16:45

Of course, it is advisable to book tickets as early as possible and do note that it is often cheaper to split your ticket at Bedford when buying online or in person at the station (for the Saturday trip to Kettering) so we’d advise you to check prices for both!

Due to rail engineering work trains are not running all the way from London to Kettering. There is a rail replacement service from Bedford to Kettering. We have organised a coach to take our volunteers and guests from Bedford directly to Boughton House.

It is essential that you travel on either of the following trains in order to catch the coach:

Blackfriars departing at: 07:54 arriving at Bedford at: 09:21

St. Pancras departing at: 08:04 arriving at Bedford at: 09:21

The coach will pick you up from Bedford station at 09.30 and take you straight to Boughton.

At 16.30 there will be a coach to pick you up from Boughton and take you to Bedford to catch a train back to London.

There will be a small charge of £10 per person for a return journey.

East midlands trains will also be running a rail replacement bus service to Kettering if you miss the train and coach!

Details about the engineering works plus timetable can be found here.

The postcode for Boughton is NN14 1BJ – however be aware that some sat navs will send you to the wrong entrance as the postcode covers a considerable area.

There is no scheduled public transport route direct to Boughton House due to its rural location.

Car Parking and Arrival

Parking is available free of charge on site at a distance of 75 meters (246ft) from the Stable Yard.

Drop offs/Pick ups

All drop offs and pick ups should be in the car park.  It is then a short walk from the car park to the Festival site.

There are 8 blue badge spaces available in the car park.

The disabled/ impaired mobility pick-up and drop-off point is at the entrance to the Stable Yard for easier access. We then ask that cars are then parked in the main car park.

The surface from the car park to the main accessible entrance is paved with a light gravel top that does not impede wheelchair access. However, there is a small declining slope from car park to the Stable Yard and an incline on the route to the accessible entrance on the West Front of the main House.

Most areas surrounding the entrance to the House itself and the Stable Yard area, which includes the Gift Shop, Tea Room and Reception, are paved with a very small layer of granite chippings that do not impede wheelchair mobility, or cobbled.
